Rec Ramblers

Get out, get moving and get connected this summer with our new adult walking club! Exercising can be a lot more fun when you’re doing it with friends. These will be early morning activities initially but may expand to include some evenings at some point. We’ll meet at 6:30am at BRC on Monday/Wednesdays and at 6:30am and at the New Strawn Community Center on Tuesday/Thursdays and exercise for an hour. If anyone wants to run instead of walk, Katie Schuster will join us for some of those mornings to lead a running group at a pace that can include beginning runners.

This activity is FREE as we won’t be providing transportation (we do see some cool Rec Rambler t-shirts and special events/trips in the future) but PLEASE SIGN UP at the Rec so we’ll know who’ll be joining us! You can stop by the Rec or call Alison or Katie to sign up. Katie will communicate with those who would like to run about the dates she will be able to join us!

Birding for Beginners

If you love nature and want to learn more about a fun hobby that is low-cost, interesting, and will get you outside and moving, birding might be just what you’re looking for! We’ll travel to Flint Hill National Wildlife Refuge and join Tim Menard, a veteran Biologist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, who will teach us the basic skills and get us out on a trail.  We might notice sights and sounds we’ve previously overlooked, like bird songs, squirrel chatter, trees, insects, fruits, and flowers.  Birding can be a gateway into recognizing and appreciating a wider world that was there all along.
